Only the second race meeting back after lockdowns lifted, the club welcomed hundreds of patrons for a great day of racing and refreshments.
It was a day to celebrate greater freedoms and movement around the state, even if it was to enjoy "the race that stops a nation".
At 3pm all eyes were glued to the monitors as the main race at Flemington jumped.
Disappointingly for the Sapphire Coast Turf Club, Spanish Mission ran well for a very creditable third place in the field of 24.
Had it won from barrier 14, the club would have been $50,000 richer thanks to the Melbourne Cup Regional Tour initiative, which in turn would've have been donated to the Social Justice Advocates.
